The following members were present: President Pat Turner, Vice President Ted
Robinson, Secretary Estelle Holmes and board members Mark Morgan, Jimmy Anderson,
Monica Cantrell, Tom Ivey.
The Board of Trustees conducted the following business:
- Recognition: The Lonesome Dove 4-H gave a progress
report to the Board of Trustees and presented tokens of appreciation. Wyndie Woodhouse was spokesperson for
Lonesome Dove 4-H.
- Approved
the following items on the consent agenda: minutes of meetings for September 19, 2006, and September
24, 2006, monthly financial report for month ending September 30, 2006,
and monthly tax collection for month ending September 30, 2006.
- Received
Superintendent’s reports on Kids First Head Start and TAKS Checkpoints
report and heard a presentation on the district’s health services given by
Carmen Campbell, R.N.
- Approved
the resolution regarding conducting a joint election in May 2007 with the
City of Hitchcock and authorized the Superintendent to negotiate and
execute the necessary agreements and submit changes to the U.S. Department
of Justice of Pre-clearance.
- Approved
the Kids First Head Start refunding application.
- Approved
the purchase of Flood Insurance for the 2006-2007 school year through
Blanchard Insurance Company for $43,777.
- Approved
the purchase of Compass Learning Odyssey Software for Stewart Elementary
School and Crosby Middle School and
Corrective Reading materials for Crosby Middle School and Hitchcock
High School for a total of $50,876.81.
- Approved
the donation of an awning and green house for Stewart Elementary School
from the C.A.R.E. Club.
- Approved
the purchase of a van for the IT Department for$21,144.
- Approved
the purchase of a 71-passenger air conditioned bus with white top and
tinted windows for $72,959.
- Tabled
the item to rescind the previous board action of July 27, 2006, to
purchase the modular buildings located at Stewart Elementary School
pending receipt of additional information.
- Tabled
the item to approve Off-Campus Physical Education Substitution pending the
receipt of additional information.
- Approved
addition and reclassification of two employees at Crosby Middle School to
participate in the Governor’s Educator Excellence Award.
Workshop 1 to discuss golf,
restrooms at girls’ softball field, Local Policy FMG: Commencement, Superintendent Search Proposals, and Eckard Land
& Acquisition—land survey. Thursday,
October 26, 2006, 6:30 PM.
Workshop 2 to discuss Magellan
K-12 Demography Update—based on anticipated growth, and Location of proposed
Transportation Facility. TBA
