Hitchcock 8th Graders Create a Memory
June 02, 2009
Kailynn Boclair, a young and promising Crosby Middle School athlete, died on the basketball court in January, 2008. Her untimely death has touched her classmates’ hearts forever. But Brittney Johnson, class of 2014, wanted to insure that Kailynn is especially remembered by her classmates. Brittney planned and coordinated a project through Learn and Serve America that allowed eighth grade students to create cement stones, complete with individual handprints.
In the next
school year, Brittney plans to create a terraced section in Joe
Moore Park honoring Kailynn’s memory. While the stones are the
foundation of the project, donations by her classmates and
community members will be used for park bench construction and
landscaping.
Among the many students who worked to realize the project were Ebony Ward, Kimaria Nelson, Vanessa Galaviz, and Rodrigo Dominguez. Pictured is Rodrigo Dominguez with his finished stone.
