SES ~ Red Ribbon Week

Stewart Elementary completed their Red Ribbon Week yesterday . According to the Red Ribbon organization, "In response to the murder of DEA Agent Enrique Camarena, angered parents and youth in communities across the country began wearing Red Ribbons as a symbol of their commitment to raise awareness of the killing and destruction caused by drugs. Today, the Red Ribbon serves as a catalyst to mobilize communities to educate youth and encourage participation in drug prevention activities." Bully prevention was added at a later time to the Red Ribbon campaign. To celebrate Red Ribbon Week, Stewart Elementary had a Red Ribbon Family Poster contest, an assembly from Depelchin, a Homeroom door-decorating contest, a bully-prevention assembly, Red Ribbon facts of the day, several videos over the dangers of drugs and the dangers of bullying, and a week of dressing up: Put a Cap on Drugs, Sock it to Bullying, Say Aloha to Drugs, I'm on a Drug-free Team, and Red Out day.
