ESL Program: Vision
PHILOSOPHY
The ESL Program is an integral part of the total school program.
This program will insure that all students have successful learning
opportunities that help them reach their full potential and add
quality throughout their lives.
BELIEFS
*We believe that the experiences, languages and culture that a child brings to the classroom should be considered educational assets to be developed. This recognition promotes successful academic experiences and increases the student's self-image.
*We believe concept development and reading skills in the first language should precede development of the same concepts in the second language.
*We believe the ESL Program should encourage and develop parental involvement, academic achievement and student responsibility and independence.
*We believe that a strong, district wide staff development
component is necessary to insure articulation and alignment of
curriculum and consistency in theories and process.
GOAL
The goal of the English as a Second Language Program shall be to enable limited English Language Learners to become competent in the comprehension, speaking, reading, and composition of the English language through the integrated use of second language methods.
