The Hitchcock ISD Board of Trustees have approved the hiring of Glen Newsom as the Hitchcock High School Assistant Principal for the 2023-24 school year.

“We are excited to have someone of Mr. Newsom's quality join the administrative team at Hitchcock ISD,” said Superintendent Travis Edwards. “His connection to this community and his experience set him apart from the other candidates. Because of these two factors, we expect him to be able to immediately contribute to the success of the high school and our District. Mr. Newsom will join us formally on July 10 but will most likely be seen around the campus before then.”

Newsom is familiar with Hitchcock ISD, having graduated top of his class at Hitchcock High School in 1987. He went on to earn his Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Houston at Clear Lake in Houston and Masters of Education Administration from Lamar University in Beaumont.

Newsom began his career in 1996 at Crosby Middle School in Hitchcock as a teacher, eventually becoming the English Department Head and the Junior High Athletic Director.

In 2002, Newsom moved to Hitchcock High School, where he served as the English Department Head and taught English III and English IV. He also served as an assistant coach for varsity football and basketball, and head coach for varsity baseball and golf.

Newsom left the district in 2010 upon accepting an Assistant Principal position at Friendswood High School, where he spent the next 13 years.

Upon his return to Hitchcock High School, Newsom’s primary purpose will be to assist the current principal in the overall administration instructional programs and campus-level operations.

“I am beyond excited to be coming back home and that's what Hitchcock is for me, it's home,” said Newsom. “I am a proud Hitchcock alum, as are my wife and children; it's where my career started as a teacher and coach, and I just felt called to come back where I can make the most difference. I want the world to know there are great kids here, capable of so much. I want to encourage and support the principal, teachers, and staff at the high school and together we will inspire this next generation of Bulldogs to discover their own passions and tap into their strengths, so they too can go out and make a difference in this world.”
