Hitchcock ISD Senior Awards Night Celebrates Outstanding Achievements

May 22, 2024 (Hitchcock, TX) – Hitchcock Independent School District (HISD) proudly celebrated the exceptional achievements of the Class of 2024 at the Senior Awards and Recognition Night held at College of the Mainland on May 21st. The evening highlighted the hard work, dedication, and accomplishments of our seniors, while showcasing the incredibly generous hearts of our community and community members.

Key highlights of the evening included:

  • Promise Scholarship: With 100% of our students successfully applying to College of the Mainland (COM), all are eligible to receive the Promise Scholarship. We have 35 students planning to attend COM in the Fall.
  • Collegiate High School: 13 HHS students attended Collegiate High School this year. 10 of these students earned Associate's Degrees, with the other 3 continuing their education at COM. Collectively, these seniors have earned 773 college hours.
  • College Bridge Program: 4 senior students completed Math and English College Bridge courses, earning TSI exemptions at more than 90 partnering colleges and universities across Texas.
  • TSI Accreditation: 79 students received TSI accreditation through COM, earning credits from College Prep Math and English courses.
  • Focused Endorsements: This year, we challenged our students to choose a path and earn a focused endorsement. They accepted the challenge and excelled:
    • Students Who Recieved Multiple Endorsements: 42
    • Business and Industry: 11
    • Arts & Humanities: 23
    • Public Service: 19
  • IBC Certifications: Our students received various certifications in multiple fields:
    • Agriculture: Wildlife (3), Floral Design (22), Equine Science (2), Advanced Animal Science (11)
    • Culinary: SevSafe Manager Certification (7), AMSA Food Science (6)
    • AutoTech: ASE Certification (2)
    • Health: EKG (4), Phlebotomy (7), PCT (5)
    • Business: Word Expert (1)
  • Scholarships: The total amount of scholarships awarded to our seniors is $1,071,400, with $231,800 in academic scholarships and the remainder in athletic scholarships.
  • Military Enlistment: We proudly recognize Katelyn Melendez, who has enlisted in the US military.
  • University Acceptances: 40 seniors have been accepted into four-year universities.
  • Top Honors: Our Salutatorian is Biana Padron, and our Valedictorian is Arieanna Ayala.

Superintendent Travis W. Edwards praised the students' achievements, stating, "Our students' accomplishments this year truly reflect the spirit of our motto: 'What starts here can change the world.' Their hard work, determination, and the support from our community and educators have set them on a path to success. We are incredibly proud of each one of them and excited to see the bright futures that await them.”

Your unwavering support and generosity play a crucial role in helping our students achieve their dreams and make a lasting impact on the world. This year, every senior is leaving our school with a plan for their future, whether they are on a technical career path or continuing their education. Each student is prepared for success and poised to make a significant impact on the world.
