Setting The Record Straight
SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT: HITCHCOCK ISD FINANCIAL TRANSPARENCY & ACCOUNTABILITY
INTRODUCTION

Recent allegations have been made about Hitchcock ISD's operations and finances. While we respect community members' right to raise concerns, we believe our families and stakeholders deserve accurate information about what's actually happening in our district.
This page is organized to help you easily find information on specific topics. Each section below addresses a concern that has been raised, provides the relevant facts, explains the district's actions and legal compliance, and outlines our path forward. We encourage you to review the information thoroughly and reach out with any additional questions.
Each claim or request is answered below in an accordion format with the facts, appropriate district action, compliance status, and our commitment moving forward.
We want to reiterate that Hitchcock ISD has operated in a corrective management mindset since Dr. Henson's arrival in September 2025, taking systematic, proactive steps to address past challenges—not in response to external pressure, but because it is our responsibility to students, families, and taxpayers. We cannot change what happened in the past; we can only correct what happens in the future, and that is what this administration has been focused on since day one.
For additional information or questions, please contact the Superintendent's office at 409-316-6545 ext. 1501 or attend one of our monthly board meetings where financial reports and district updates are presented publicly. If you are unable to attend, these reports can also be found online by clicking here.

OUR COMMITMENT MOVING FORWARD
We want to reiterate that Hitchcock ISD has operated in a corrective management mindset since Dr. Henson's arrival in September 2025, taking systematic, proactive steps to address past challenges—not in response to external pressure, but because it is our responsibility to students, families, and taxpayers. We cannot change what happened in the past; we can only correct what happens in the future, and that is what this administration has been focused on since day one.
The Balance Between Transparency and Operations:
The district has been proactively partnering with TEA through the established corrective action process and will continue to until all past issues have been addressed. We already operate in full compliance with all cited legal obligations—not in response to demands, but because these are fundamental requirements for all Texas school districts. If Hitchcock ISD were not in compliance with these obligations, TEA would have already exercised its intervention authority under state law.
We welcome accountability, transparency, and community engagement, but we cannot allow administrative burden to paralyze the corrective work already underway and producing results. Staff hours spent gathering, reviewing, and producing documents are hours not spent revising policies, strengthening financial controls, planning for the next fiscal year, and implementing the reforms outlined in TEA Corrective Action Plans. The same personnel being asked to provide documentation are the same personnel responsible for executing the financial reforms and operational improvements this district needs.
Our Mission Continues:
Hitchcock ISD remains focused on ensuring every student receives a high-quality education in fiscally responsible, legally compliant schools, and we will continue this work with integrity and transparency. Our doors remain open, our board meetings are public, and our commitment to students is non-negotiable.
Community Engagement:
Community members with questions about district operations, financial management, or corrective action implementation are encouraged to:
- Attend board meetings (schedule available here on our website)
- Review financial reports presented monthly to the Board
- Submit questions or concerns to district administration by email or through request of meeting time with the Superintendent
- Engage constructively in the democratic process
