Welcome to the health services department!

The Hitchcock ISD Health Services Department provides services supporting the physical, mental, emotional, and social health of students and their success in the learning process.

Services provided by school nurses include:

  • First aid and crisis intervention
  • Medication administration
  • Health assessments
  • Immunization enforcement
  • Health counseling
  • Diabetes monitoring
  • Communicable disease monitoring
  • Health related classroom instruction
  • Liaison for parents, physician and community agencies
  • Promotion of healthy lifestyles
  • Resource for students, parents and staff with medical needs

GENERAL INFORMATION

A school nurse or clinic assistant is available to provide first aid for minor injuries and the sudden onset of illness. If there is an injury or illness beyond our resources, the parent/guardian will be contacted. If it is life threatening, EMS will be called. Schools are not permitted to dispense any medication unless it is provided by the parent in accordance with state law. The following topicals are commonly used in the school clinic. Parents are asked to notify the school nurse if their child may react to one of the following items:

  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Hydrogen peroxide
  • ST37 antiseptic
  • Vaseline
  • Oral Gel (or generic)
  • Aloe vera
  • Baby oil
  • Mouthwash
  • Deodorant
  • Hand/body lotion/cream
  •  Calamine lotion Caladryl (or generic)
  • Saline eye wash
  • Contact solution
  • Visine (or generic)
  • Latex-free band aids
  • Gauze dressing
  • Non-adhering bandages
  • Vinyl gloves
  • Antibacterial soap
