introducing a Modified Four-Day Instructional Week for 2026-27

Hitchcock ISD is introducing a modified four-day instructional week for the 2026-2027 school year. This schedule is designed to protect learning time, increase consistency, and support academic excellence for all students.

Key Dates

First Day of School: August 11, 2026
Last Day of School: May 27, 2027
Graduation: May 28, 2027

How It Works

Same Instructional Time
Students will be in class the exact same number of instructional minutes as before. There is no loss of learning time.

Most Fridays Off
The modified schedule gives families and staff flexibility for appointments, which means fewer absences during the week and more consistency in the classroom.

Strategic Full Weeks

  • First Friday of every month: Students in school
  • Full weeks in August, December, January, and May: We start strong and finish strong

Targeted Support Fridays
Select Fridays throughout the year are used for targeted academic support and enrichment for students who need extra help.

Grading Periods

First Semester: August 11 – December 18

  • 1st Grading Period: August 11 – October 14
  • 2nd Grading Period: October 19 – December 18

Second Semester: January 5 – May 27

  • 3rd Grading Period: January 5 – March 12
  • 4th Grading Period: March 15 – May 27

  • October 9, 15, 16, 23, 30, 2026
  • November 13, 20, 23-27, 2026
  • December 21, 2026 – January 4, 2027 (Winter Break)
