VATRE 2025 Ballot Language

Proposition A – The Ballot Language

The Hitchcock ISD Board of Trustees has called a Voter-Approval Tax Rate Election (VATRE) for the November 2025 ballot.

Below is the official ballot language for Proposition A, presented exactly as it will appear in the November 2025 election.

What Happens if VATRE 2025 Passes vs. Fails

If VATRE Passes

  • For 2026, the district can use the adopted golden pennies to set the M&O rate.
  • For the average homeowner, this equals about $15 more per year.
  • These funds stay in Hitchcock ISD and go directly to:
    • Facilities and maintenance
    • Student programs and day-to-day operations
    • Teacher and staff salaries

If VATRE Fails

  • HISD must operate at the state-compressed rate.
  • That means significantly fewer dollars available for facility repairs, student programs, and salaries  — even as costs continue to rise.
