HISD ~ Remote letter to parent

Hitchcock ISD Families,

Hitchcock ISD will begin the school year on August 17, 2020 in a 100% virtual format. This decision was based on results of parental surveys, community concerns, much discussion with our Board of Trustees, guidance from the Texas Education Agency and the Galveston County Health Department.

HISD will be following a remote learning plan from August 17, 2020 for 8 weeks with a hopeful return of students on October 14, 2020. We may be able to transition students back on campus before October 14th if local health and safety conditions significantly improve. With that said, it will take a community wide effort of wearing masks when in public, frequent washing of hands, and practicing social distancing as much as possible. Specifics of the remote learning plan will be posted on our website on August 12. Students will be allowed to participate in extracurricular activities following the guidelines established by the TEA and UIL.

Hitchcock ISD requires all new and returning students to go online to our website and complete an online registration packet. If you need help with any part of this process, call the campus registrar on the campus that your child will attend and they will help you complete the registration process or set up a time for you to come to campus to complete it.

Once your child has been registered for school, HISD will ensure that your child has a device and access to the internet. Students that do not have a device at home will be provided a Chromebook. There are companies such as Comcast that will provide free intern.et for 60 days. However, if that does not work for you, please let your campus know so that we can work with you to get internet at your home as it will be needed for your child to be successful with the new format of online instruction.

On August 17, HISD will begin providing 3 meals per day per child. There will be community pick up points as well as pick up points from some of our schools. Specific pick up points will be published on August 12 on our district website as well as on social media.

If Hitchcock ISD can help you in any way in the transition to online learning, please reach out to your child's campus or at the number above, and we will connect you with the person that can best assist you.

Thank you for your patience and understanding during these trying times.
